The Landing Wines Company
The story of wine production in New Zealand is thought to have started in 1819 in the Bay of Islands, where The Landing is located. Today, The Landing continues that legacy through its single-estate vineyard and winery on the Purerua Peninsula, producing wines that reflect the unique character of Northland’s coastal landscape.
First planted in 2007 with Chardonnay and Syrah, The Landing’s vineyard now stretches across approximately 14 hectares overlooking Rangihoua Bay. Plantings have expanded to include Pinot Gris, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with further development continuing as the vineyard evolves.
A member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, The Landing is committed to responsible vineyard management and environmental stewardship. Every year, all the label’s grapes are grown, hand-picked and processed on site. From vine to bottle, every step of the process takes place at The Landing’s purpose-built winery, where winemaker Ben Byrne and consulting winemaker Warren Gibson craft wines that express the distinctive terroir of the Bay of Islands.
The wines have received widespread recognition in New Zealand and internationally, with recent accolades including Double Gold, 97 points and New Zealand Wine of the Year at the 2026 Sommeliers Choice Awards for The Landing Chardonnay 2023.
You’ll find The Landing wines in leading restaurants, stocked by premium retailers and exported to markets around the world, helping showcase Northland as one of New Zealand’s most distinctive wine-growing regions.
